Lily of the valley, Convallaria majalis, is the queen of convulsions. A perennial from the Danish nature, which in May - June blooms with white bells in nodding clusters on a leafless stem. The leaves come from the ground and are fresh green. The fruits are red berries. Well-known, but still pretty, and with the fine sweet scent, it is a classic among the garden perennials. In nature, here in Denmark ๐ฉ๐ฐ it is found in many different forests, it can stand on the limestone floor, or we can find it in the light oak crates on lean ground. The lily of the valley has an incredible tolerance soil acidity. In the forest we almost always find it into clusters; This is due to the fact that it spreads on the runners and forms a good bottom cover. Itโs very common here, and many have it in the garden. Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend, and thanks for commenting @Oregon Gal ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐

@Else Marie Damm ๐ฉ๐ฐ They are from Denmark? MY golly. I didnโt know any of this. They always look so sweet. You donโt see them in the plant sales here. Are they bulbs, roots, or tubers? I just realized I have never had them in my gardens. I am in original gardener in both homes I have lived in here. 1978 and 1992 homes. Former farm land. I will plant some next year when I find a source. A good portion of homes here have been built here since 1959. New compared to Denmark. ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ Faye

Lily of the Valley can form dense colonies using underground and rooting rhizomes. They can be very powerful if they thrive well.
Lily of the Valley are excellent for cutting, but remember that flowers, red berries, and the rest of the plant are very toxic. The plant is very common in the Scandinavian countries, and you find them โwildโ in nature in the shadow, in the forests. @Oregon Gal ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐

Over here in Cornwall we have a town called Helston. Every year on May the 8th they hold a very famous festival called Helston Flora Day , where children and adults dance through the street and in and out of peopleโs houses and gardens . It is a tradition on that day for people to wear and decorate there house door ways and gateways with flowers and foliage and especially Lilly of the Valley for good luck . If ever you come to England , come to Helston in Cornwall for Flora Day on May 8th . ๐๐บ
