Women’s History Month: “I have not raised the dead, but I have awakened the living...The general effect of attempting things beyond us, even though we fail, is to enlarge and liberalize the mind.” ~ Belva Lockwood Suffragette & first woman to run for the American presidency in 1884 & 1888, even though she herself couldn’t vote yet. After first petitioning congress, she was also the 1st woman attorney, to be given the right to practice before the US Supreme Court. (1/2)

I think often of Belva, her quote rings true & every time I vote I think of Belva & her ilk who worked so hard in order for women to get the right to vote & how that right is both precious & fragile. It’s shocking to think that the full enforcement of voting rights for women of color only came w/the Voting Rights Act of 1965 & how the SC has been steadily eroding the VRA since 2013. May we never forget those who fought (& cont.to fight) for all women to have & cherish this fragile right! ♥️ (2/2)
