CONT. the Sammy version was far and away better than the Dave version. Man Alex got serious skilz.By far the worst thing that happens when you get older all your heroes and friends start to pass , it's major depressing. I hope you are well and staying safe. PEACE

@TheDude it's funny. I gave you a list of 5 drummers most people that know rock would expect. And as I listened through those same bands they were my heroes. But, you're honesty is clear. Yes Alex Van Halen is up there. Stewart Copland of the police. Dare I say Peter Criss through 1979. Now David era vrs Sammy Era. I love Montrose. I love Standing Hampton. I love Heavy Metal. Every time I listen to 5150, I wish Alex VH would re-record the drums with acoustic drums. I hated that he'd play such

@TheDude magnificent runs, and rhythems, and with such vigor. Yet, to me each sounded the same. VH II, Fair Warning, a Woman and Children First are my three favorite Dave albums. Oh, and you brought up Tommy Aldridge. Let me throw out Cozy Powell. Both are fantastic. Oh, crap, this won't make me look great to those casually reading, but we can't forget Phil Collins as a drummer. Genesis, Solo, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton to name a few.

@TheDude I can't compare the two VH's. Don't forget Gary Cherone singing. Extreme was a great band. Thought that album was pretty bad. Do you like The Cult. One of my favorites. Think Electric and Sonic Temple. DLR was Electric. Sammy was Sonic Temple. I love them both the same but they couldn't be more different. I love talking music to a friend again. We've really only scratched the surface. Take time and let's try the 10 albums if I was stuck on an island. I don't think I've ever finished. 👍

@TheDude Attended or Video? Truly have to keep them separate. Attended. 1) Soundgarden at The Warfield 1992. Van Halen at the Cal Palace in 1986 for the 1984 tour. Smashing Pumpkins stage B at Lollapalooza. The were headlining, but playing b-sides in street clothes earlier in the day. I have to change my no 1. Janes Addiction at the rec center at SJSU. I don't think I ever heard or saw anything like it before or after.

@TheDude You meant Live Recordings. Sorry about that. I've got to crash. Early day tomorrow. In all honesty, my first live recording was Kiss Alive II. I guess it will always be on my list. Got it when I had the Chicken Pox at 8 years old. It got me through some rough times. I'll put together more for later today. Have a good night my friend.
