@🌳Brenavere🌳 (part 2) My space app picked up the International Space Station and the Hubble Telescope but we couldn’t see them. Could you actually see the satellites? What do they look like? Did you see the with the telescope? I know I have a lot of questions but I’m so curious. 😄🖤🔭🪐🌙⭐️💫☄️💙💙🖤🌎

Ok, so the first night we drove to the lake..it’s not even 5 minutes from my ranch. We have a lot of hills and that night the comet was low in the sky beneath Ursa Major (Big Dipper). Several people were there waiting for darkness..I actually spotted it first with my binocs, a nice pair but not very powerful. It was so exciting. Without the binocs I could see it but much fainter and better seen with my peripheral vision than straight on looking at it! G explained why that is but..

I wouldn’t be able to explain it to you! Lol So I watched more with my binoculars. Something about being alive when a celestial object is “near” and only once in your lifetime really connects you to the universe; it’s awesome. And YES, satellites are easy to see. They are in orbit close to the earth and look like bright stars moving very fast...you see them when it’s dark or even just almost dark if the sun is shining on them. AND YES!!!! We saw all three that same night, the Hubble, the ISS..

..and Neowise! Just all there in the same place for a moment and then the two moved on leaving Neowise. Satellites are easy to see without any visual aid. And also, yes, we looked through the telescope which was also an awesome view... In the photos G took, I noticed the greenish color, which to my surprise was natural.. I guess makes sense because they are so icy. It had two tails...and I learned they all have two tails but one predominate. Our sky was very dark, as the moon was

...only a thin crescent of earthshine, and beautiful! On the opposite horizon Jupiter was in fully glory and G aligned his telescope so that we could see 3 of Jupiter’s moons...that was a first for me. Without G-man to instruct me, I’d miss everything, lol. But he is a great amateur astronomer and always knows in advance what will be interesting to watch.. Here’s something you should keep your eye out for, it’s the trippiest thing I have ever seen and that is the deployment of the Star Link....

...satellites! One of Elon Musk’s ventures. These things are amazing!!! At a specific moment in a specific area of the night sky one will suddenly begin seeing these things as they deploy and it looks like a dotted line moving in the sky...have a look on you.tube! I am certain there will be a video of it...but to see it for yourself is amazing!

It sounds like it was Beautiful. Definitely artificial light screws up our ability to see the night sky in it's full Beauty. I want to see the Northern Lights one day. I went to Alaska for my oldest sons wedding but it was the wrong time of year for that, but maybe next time. 🙂❤

@🌳Brenavere🌳 A couple questions- How can you tell it’s a satellite and not a plane? Do you use the SkyView Lite App? Did you see the satellites with binoculars, or a telescope, or just with your eyes? 💙 Did you see the ISS with your telescope? You definitely had a better view of the comet than we did. I think we should have looked sooner in the month. Some of those views online were incredible. 🥰🔭⭐️🌙💫☄️

@🌳Brenavere🌳 Some of my last questions may be repeats because I wrote them before I got all of your messages. You are so lucky to have a super dark sky & a knowledgeable son with a telescope. I am definitely envious of all the space objects you’ve seen. Our sky is just not as dark as yours. 🥰💙💙💙 I definitely hope G will be safe. Young people around him may feel invincible, but maybe that will change now as people see the increase of cases.

@HollyDE 🌼🍃 I’m glad I photographed it with my DSLR camera on a tripod. It’s like the comet all of a sudden appeared! 🥰♥️♥️♥️☄️💫🌙⭐️🔭🪐🌎

1. G’s app identifies every satellite. 2. They don’t have blinking lights like planes do and resemble instead a normal star but moving very fast, faster than a plane, like the ISS, which races across the night sky. We wave at Doug and Bob a lot..did you watch them dock at the ISS and then go inside the ISS? I was GLUED to my tv, lol! I am not 100% sure what app G has but I have Star Walk and I thought that was what G has. I never think to watch a satellite with my binocs but now I want to

@HollyDE 🌼🍃 Holly, I am 64 yrs. old but when I was a girl, around 12 or so, I visited Detroit with my mom and dad...one night while there the aurora was visible from there....I just got so lucky and never forgot it. I wish I had been older and it’s on my bucket list to see them once again if I can! I use to watch a live stream of the aurora from Fairbanks Alaska...just one guy had a web cam set up to live stream during the months when it was most visible...not sure if that is still available

Ya know, we may live on 500 acres but I am still stuck between San Antonio and Austin, so if the comet had been in the southern sky, it may have hindered my view somewhat. But some of our hills obstruct the light enough that we can see. When I was a girl in the Texas Panhandle I could see the Milky Way as if I were in pitch darkness....my daddy and would wait for the satellite Sputnik to pass over and we would gaze at the brightness of the Milky Way. I haven’t seen it that bright in forever.

And lastly, MY dream is to go to the Southern Hemisphere and stargaze there! I want to see the giant Emu in the sky which is enormous and tucked away in the middle of the Milky Way...if you’ve not seen pictures of that, do so..it’s mighty incredible. Happy Stargazing my cosmic friend!!! G’night!!!
