Look for a used set with the original Pauline Ellison cover illustrations. I can stare at them for hours. I’m coloring a couple of them. This pic, however, is a poster for Studio Ghibli's 2006 film, Tales from Earthsea, which is loosely based on the Earthsea canon. Gorgeous animation, disappointing story. 👇🏼

(Poor Ursula. Every time someone has adapted her Earthsea stories they’ve cut her out and screwed it up. I know Peter Jackson could do it; she’s gone now, so not sure she cares much anymore.) The trilogy is just the beginning of the entire Earthsea Cycle. LeGuin was fairly militant about civil rights, so some of the later stories can be disturbing. You need to be prepared before you read number four, Tehanu. I wasn’t. 😳 👇🏼

In addition, LeGuin knew dragons like no one else on earth. She reveals some of their history and origins in later books that may — or may not — disappoint you. I admit I kinda was, although I’m getting used to the idea. Also, if you’re even theoretically interested in SciFi, you’ll want to read The Left Hand of Darkness. 👇🏼

LeGuin didn’t write SciFi to describe nifty technology. She focused on her characters and delved into some pretty complex issues. (I cried at the end.) I’m working on a cover illustration for it. Any comments on this pic must include “I just went online and ordered The Trilogy!” or they WILL be deleted. 😠😠😠 ........ 😂😂😂😂😂

I’ve read almost her entire work, not just the Earthsea trilogy. I’ve loved Úrsula Kroeber Le Guin all my life (remember I’m older than you 😂😂😂) so you don’t dare to erase this comment! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
