The doctors insisted on keeping Marinette in the hospital for a few more days to run some tests, so she called her parents and let them know what had happened after the doctors left the room. "I was taking a walk and I started to remember what happened...I'm fine, you can come visit tomorrow...I'll be out in a few days they said." she said joyfully. Chat Noir was so happy seeing her happy again. He took a step forward to hug her, but a spurt of pain ran through his side as he collapsed. "CHAT!" Marinette screamed, dropping the phone. She ran over to him, unzipping his jacket to see what had happened. What she saw made her breath catch. Black tendrils of energy spiderwebbed across his abdomen, like some sort of internal infection. Tikki flew to Marinette instantly. "We need to get him to Master Fu. This looks like a magical injury, not something the hospital can fix!" she said frantically. Marinette was busy trying to focus on Chat's vitals, but transformed into Ladybug and picked him up. "Stay with me, Chat." she whispered as they swung through the city. "Of course, Bugaboo." he said weakly. They landed in front of the dojo in less than three minutes. Ladybug pushed open the door as Master Fu, back in his home, rushed up to the pair. "Set him down here." he said immediately, gesturing toward a bed in the room. Ladybug did so, trying not to break down again. What was going on? Master Fu sat next to him. "You were warned of the consequences. Yet you did it anyway?" he said. "I had to! It was the only way!" Chat insisted, flinching as the tendrils made their way up to his midriff. "Will someone PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON???" Ladybug snapped. Master Fu looked up patiently. "The Miraculous grant one wish if used together. I'm sure you know that, seeing as you own one." he said. "But for every wish you make, the opposite comes true for another. By using the Miraculous to save your life, Chat Noir had to give up his own." he said gravely. Ladybug stopped breathing. Because Chat had literally killed himself to save her. She wasn't sure whether to slap him, kiss him, or start crying. "Is there any way to stop it?" she said, voice hollow. Master Fu thought for a moment. "I can brew a potion to delay the process, but it will only give him two or three days at most." "I'm sorry, Ladybug, I had to!" Chat said, clasping her hand in his. "But you're gonna die." she said, tears running down her cheeks. "Is my life worth yours?" They remained in the dojo until Master Fu handed Chat three vials of potion. "Use them every day. It won't stop the pain, but it will dull it so you won't feel it as often." he said, looking at the two of them. Chat slid the vials into his belt as him and Ladybug took off again, trying to avoid crying in front of the Guardian. Wayzz flew up beside him. "Master..." Master Fu walked to the Miraculous box, staring at the place where the cat miraculous used to lay. "It was his choice, and he was aware of what would happen. But never has a hero willingly sacrificed themself to save their partner. That kind of love cannot be manufactured, Wayzz. I hope they can enjoy their last days together at least." he said sadly, closing the box. A few miles away, Ladybug was sobbing as she fiercely hugged Chat. "Dumb cat." she choked as he ran a hand through her hair. "You promised! I thought you never lied!" Chat couldn't bring himself to look her in the eyes. "The thought of you dead hurt me more than that stab wound. You have so much more life to live, Marinette, but for me...I'm just a face in the papers." he said. Ladybug looked up. "No! You're not! You were the reason I stopped cutting, Adrien, and the reason I never gave up on my dream to be a designer! You're my second half, Chat. Without Chat Noir, it's not a team. It's just a lonely girl." she cried. He drank the first vial and stood up, hugging Ladybug by the waist. "I only have a few more days, milady. I promise to make the most out of every one." he said.
