One day, Marinette stopped coming to school. Alya called her between classes, but she never picked up. Nino called her parents, but they had no idea where she'd gone or done. Chloe even asked her butler to check by the house, but no one answered. No one knew that Marinette was on her bedroom floor, knitting furiously. The needles clacked together as she knitted row after row, not pausing at all. "Marinette, your graduation is tomorrow! Aren't you going to-" "I don't care." Marinette cut Tikki off shortly. "Adrien's not going to be there. It won't matter at all." Plagg flew beside her, landing on her leg. He was still feeling pain, too. It had affected his diet even more. He couldn't stomach even a slice of camembert. Tikki was trying to take care of them both, but nothing was relieving the grief. Marinette knitted. Plagg slept. Tikki watched them, wishing for Adrien to come back. "At least eat-" she began, but was stopped by a glare from Marinette. "I don't need food, I don't care about graduation, I don't want to draw some stupid dresses for a company, and I don't want to live like this!" she yelled at Tikki, eyes moistening. "Spots on!" Ladybug swung as far as she dared, letting the hot summer air bathe her body. How dare the weather be this nice. It was as though no one cared about Adrien's death, except her. Last night she'd cried herself to sleep, and there was no Chat to comfort her. No parents to hold her. No magic to revive her, and no pain to overcome her. She was a shell of grief and anger. Ladybug ended up on top of the Eiffel Tower, looking down at the tourists flooding the area. They have no idea, she thought. No idea that one of the best people in the world is gone. The sight was too much to bear. "Spots off." she whispered quietly, climbing down and walking the rest of the way home. She passed André's cart, waving feebly as he noticed her sunken cheeks and slumped posture. She passed the knife range, where Dream Slasher had risen. She passed the Louvre, where Chat had laid, bleeding out. She passed the hospital, where she'd spent endless nights making sure her kitty was okay. She passed the school, where Adrien had handed her his umbrella in the rain. And then she passed the lock bridge, where the golden lock Chat had made still hung, swaying in the wind. And that was the final straw. Marinette ran home sobbing, pushing away her parents as she locked herself in her room. She tore down all of her pictures, scattering them on the floor. She threw her mannequin on the ground, tearing apart the jacket that hung on it. She punched the window, cracking the glass as shards sunk into her knuckles. Then she picked up one of the pieces and drove it across her arm, tears blurring her vision. "Marinette, no!" Tikki said frantically, trying to take the glass from her hand. "What use is living in a world without a sun?" she replied, dropping the shard on the carpet and watching blood leak down into her palm. She had never felt so alone. Nothing mattered anymore. The world would find a way to adapt without a sun, but Marinette would never be able to move on. "He was my partner." she said bitterly. "HE WAS MY PARTNER!" Salt water mixed with blood, causing it to sting as she wrapped the cut with gauze. "Everyone will find a way to cope, Tikki. But as Ladybug, whoever owns that ring becomes more than a partner. That becomes the one person you have to trust to survive. The person you look out for in every situation, defend in every problem. The person who knows you better than you know yourself, and accepts you for it. That's how the Miraculous granted that wish. It doesn't grant worldly desires. It binds their holders' hearts together. Yin and Yang, constant correlation." "Adrien Agreste was my husband. Chat Noir was my soulmate. It was the greatest moment ever when I found out they were the same person.
