Marinette ended up going to graduation. She went onstage, got her diploma, and left without a word to anyone. Alya invited her out with the class to take her mind off of Adrien, but Marinette wasn't in the mood. Instead of going home, she pulled off her robes, stuffing them into her backpack, and walking to the Agreste mansion. It was open, none of the windows were closed, and the entire house had an air of stillness. Like everything was waiting for something to happen. Marinette slowly climbed the stairs to Adrien's room, looking around. Nothing had changed, and the scent of camembert and mint lingered in the air. She sat on his bed, taking in the evening view and wishing she could take it all back. Her feelings for Adrien. Her partnership with Chat Noir. If she'd given her Miraculous to Alya back on the third day of freshman year, there would be a chance he wouldn't have died. Plagg flew up beside her and Tikki, noticing the long white scar running from her elbow to her wrist, but didn't question it. "Tikki, I miss him." Marinette said quietly. It was the first time she'd spoken all day. "I'm sorry for the way I acted. I miss his jokes and his laugh. I miss touching his floofy hair that always fell into his eyes. But what I miss most is his stability." She walked to the window, staring at the sunset. Another day gone. It had been two weeks since the death of her partner, but every sundown she felt more and more drained. Her patrols had become halfhearted, her merely stopping by the usual routes without really seeing anything. Plagg hovered in front of her face. "Marinette, there's something I have to tell you." he said. "Just don't get your hopes up...too much." He flew over to the black cat ring, landing on the paw print. He reached out with a paw and touched it, causing it to glow a vivid green. Marinette watched bleakly as a pale white light emitted from the Miraculous, forming a screen. When it cleared, her mouth dropped. It was Chat Noir, grinning softly as he stepped forward. "Ch-Ch-Chat?" she stuttered. Plagg flew beside him, a sort of sad smile in his eyes. "It's the final power of the Miraculous. Every former holder's soul is kept within this ring, giving it the powers of both ancient and new." Tikki explained. "Basically, that's Adrien's soul you're seeing." Plagg said. Marinette stepped forward, brushing her hair behind her ears. "You can...hear me?" she whispered. Chat nodded. "Of course I can, Bugaboo. What did you take me for?" She wanted to cry. He might not have been there in the flesh, but seeing his soul in person was more than she could ever need. "You kept your promise. I knew you'd never let me go, dummy." she said, smiling as tears ran down her face. He tried to brush them away, but his hand was spectral, not solid. It floated straight through her head, causing her to jump back. "Aaaaah! DON'T do that!" she yelled. He laughed, and the sound was as pure as a fresh snowfall. "But Mari, I'm not here on earth. I can still talk to you and encourage you, but nobody but you will be able to see me like this. I can't battle alongside you, but I'm going to try my best to make sure you never feel that pain again." And for the rest of Marinette's life, those were the only words she needed.

A bittersweet ending for all of my readers. I'm still thinking of a title, but I'll get back to you on that😉
