okay guys so last night i was talking to someone who was new to recolor, and i wanted to support their account, they seemed nice but then i found out they were homophobic. i asked them if they were going to respect me and who i am, along with the many different queer followers and supporters i have part of my family here on recolor, and they flat out refused to respect us. i have now blocked them. i don’t know how many of my other followers are homophobic or transphobic but i really

Yeah that’s unfortunate but keeping the conversation so people can see it is not really sticking to your own self described description of your account... “my account was created to spread love and support, i do not want *any* kind of hate on here” It’s only going to have people upset and potentially causing problems. If you truly don’t want any hate, the conversation should be deleted and not be mentioned in the first place. The only reason to mention it is to let others know about that person

@RockyQ you’re right, i have deleted it. as someone who was born and brought up in a homophobic country, and who is originally from a country where queer people got rights only two years ago, i have had to deal with the unacceptability of people often. what i will not tolerate, under any circumstance, is someone disrespecting or being hateful rather than just saying i disagree like i get that there are homophobic people in the world today but they need not spread hate ya know

@black_rose This is the reason I haven’t come out to my parents, I know they aren’t homophobic, but I’m just nervous that they won’t accept it right away because of my age. They might think it’s “just a phase”

@black_rose Unfortunately you’re not going to change close minded people. As an older bi woman I completely get what you are saying. I wanted it to come across as that you don’t need to show people or to call someone else out on their homophobia. I hope that’s how it came across. They aren’t worth your time and you don’t need to give them any attention. The less attention they get the better imo

@Just me again I do know that’s what she was doing. But you can do that without leaving the conversation up and pointing it out. Just saying “Hey guys I came across this really close minded person, remember that no one else’s opinions matter but yours “ will get that point across without giving the bigotry a stage. Hope that makes sense

Ok good I’m glad. Also it does get easier so just stay true to who you are. There will always be people who are closed minded but the only one you have to please is yourself. Love who you are.
