Cute or Funny Friday hosted by @Twila. The tomtit is a small (5in) forest bird with a large head and short tail native to New Zealand. Many males are black and white, the South Island subspecies has a yellow belly band. All have a white spot at the base of their bill that they raise as a threat display. They favor mature native forests but also use scrub and exotic forest stands. Perch on trunks and branches before swooping down to take insect prey.
