He’s sleeping. Peaceful and not haunted by whatever spirits are in the air.
I reach over and brush some of the snow white hair from his forehead, then lean down and his cheek.
“Stay with me,” I whisper.
He rolls over, towards me.
I wrap my arms around him and hold him close, crying silently.
“Stay,” I say against his head. “You have to stay strong.”
My mind goes back to when we first met him.

Loki is behind me, watching over me like some freaky grandfather.
Standing in front of the house are two people, siblings perhaps.
The first is a girl, her hair teal and her eyes a fierce hazel. She’s tall and pretty, but there is something sinister in the way she holds herself.
“Dreama,” She says when Rayna asks her name.
The boy is smaller. He’s frail and short, small and seemingly underfed. His hair is white-blond, his skin just as pale.

4 years ago His eyes are a light blue, so light and foggy that you’d think he’s blind.
He’s wearing all gray, big clothes that hang off his small frame. He looks seconds away from death.
And as he turns and speaks to someone who doesn’t exist, I realize he’s connected with the dead.
He must see and hear their thousands of voices.
“That’s Axel,” Dreama says.
She pats his arm and points to us. “Say hi, Axel.”
“Hi, Axel.”

He’d been close to death before, not even remembering himself. But when he met Sene...
The fog in his eyes was gone and his body grew lanky and muscular.
He’d grown more handsome and happy and present...
I look at his sleeping form.
He’s probably already talking to the dead, already haunted and forgetting who he is.
I have to help him find Sene.
And if that means throwing aside my plans of saving Loki, then so be it.
I kiss his head.

When we first met him Dreama had said how he was close to dying.
And if he dies now... I’ll make sure to kill myself to be with him. Axel is like the twin brother I never had.
