Adrian is sitting across from my around the white oak table. Our eyes are level, and Baby Andy sits on the floor at his feet.
“When’s the meeting starting? I don’t see why we had to be here early,” Ariel complains.
At sixteen, he’s already muscular. His white hair is past his shoulders, in graceful arches down his back. His blue eyes are kind, energetic. And his black clothes make this stand out more.

4 years ago Angel rolls her eyes from where she sits next to me.
Her white hair is cropped close to her head, an effort to take away her pixie look. But her blue eyes are full of annoyance.
Adrian has soft blue eyes, the beginnings of smile wrinkles and a smile, always a smile.
“Where are the others?” Ariel moans, flipping his long white hair as he flops down on the table.
“They aren’t coming,” Axel says slowly from the shadows.
We all jump up, trying not to show shock. Then we bow-

“Don’t,” Axel hisses.
We all quickly get into our seats at the table, and I try not show my amazement. Axel is the most amazing being I’ve ever seen.
He adjusts the black hoodie he’s known for, and glares at each of us, though his eyes soften on Ariel and Andy.
Andy’s playing on the floor, building blocks.
“So,” Axel begins, his voice barely above a whisper. “I need each of you to open your realms for the magical children.”
Angel gasps, laughing. “Oh gods, Axel.”

“Ariel, your realms are the most dangerous, I need you to watch out for them once they enter.”
I wince. Axel leaves no time for argument.
He turns to me. “Alex, your realms are already open to them, and for that I am grateful.”
Then he turns his electric gaze to Angel. “Open your realms. I don’t care if it annoys you. And finally,” Axel squats before Baby Andy.
“Hi,” he croons. “Open your realms and tell the others to do so as well.

Axel rises. “Alright. I expect each of you to do your part. Thank you for your time.”
Angel gets up, angry. “And what if we don’t?”
Ariel and I both flinch, and Adrian looks away.
Axel just smiles, a beautiful, cruel thing. “Well Angel, If that’s what you wish, I can kill you now.”
Her eyes widen.
Axel turns to an electric blue portal, and I wait for the moment he leaves. Ariel hugs him and mumbles something.
