if anyone is awake, i need a list of coping mechanisms. my friend needs help, and she has a habit of doing bad thongs to herself. i understand bc i do too, but im trying to show her ways to help that arent harmful, like holding ice until it melts or putting her hand in hot water, but not too too hot. if you guys have any other strategies please please please tell me, itd be greatly appreciated by us both. please help

I've seen something that said putting a hair tie on your wrist and pulling it back so it slaps it (but not too the point where it really hurts you) helps. Ik I'm not too much help but I hope your friend and you are okay and in a good mental state very soon!✌🏻

I've seen the butterfly project. Basically, she draws butterflies where she usually cuts/burns herself, and she names each butterfly after someone she loves. Then if she cuts/burns there herself again, it kills the butterfly, and therefore killing someone she loves.

Or she could do something that calms her down, like she could take a bath, or draw, or paint her nails, or do her hair. I've also heard doing your makeup really helps with anxiety

And if she starts to feel anxious, or like she wants to hurt herself, here's something I've tried that actually worked: Name 5 things you can see Name 4 things you can touch Name 3 things you can hear Name 2 thing you can smell Name 1 positive thing about yourself She's in my prayers, and so are you 💖💖💖

@It'sJamma💛✝️(◍•ᴗ•◍) i really like the butterfly one. ive never heard that before, i think it might help her. thank you, and i might even do that myself. shes really artistic, but she says drawing, music and painting doesn't help. she might like the makeup thing though. shes asleep rn so ill tell her those later, but earlier i told her about the sensory thing. thank you, i think itll really help

I’m soo sorry to hear that I’m not much of a help and I got here late but in case you still need help I usually do the rubber band thing @Mҽʅαɳƈԋσʅყ°SƙҽƚƈԋႦσσƙ mentioned or a make a rubber band ball or just lay on the floor and cry or what helps sometimes is just writhing some how I feel and why sometimes that calms me down and other times not really but most of the time it does. I hope everything gets better for both of you! Stay safe 🖤

When I’ve had urges I’ve found just drawing blood helps, that might just be me tho🤷🏻‍♀️ journaling and getting all the thoughts out of my head also helped

I snap rubber bands on my rists and writing stuff down in a journal helps, and every time I wanna hurt myself I just break pens and pencils or something, idk if that helps or not

Oh I’ve got a lot of coping mechanisms because I struggle with cutting too. Here are some of the ones that work best for me: -putting an ice cube where you want to hurt yourself -drawing or painting on yourself -creative expression of some sort -writing down your thoughts -listening to music -distracting yourself in some way (watching a movie, reading, playing a game, etc) -going around people because you’re less likely to do it if you’re not alone -talking to close friends or people you trust
