Story Time.
My dad grew up spending every summer on Lake Minnetonka. When his uncle ceded him the property, it meant that we grew up living on The Lake all year.
When I finally achieved a front bedroom (βfrontβ being the lake-facing side, not the road-facing side), I spent many summer nights staring out my window at scenes like this. ππΌ

My favorite nights were the windy ones with clouds scudding across the sky. On those nights, I also heard a hauntingly doleful clang echoing through the breeze.
Flash forward 100 years, Dad and I were on the porch of my new home. The wind was blowing and I had some chimes that made the same sound. ππΌ

I turned to Dad and said, βIβve always loved that sound. Brings back memories of when I used to hear it on a windy night at The Lake.
My dad β the sweetest most tolerant human on the planet β gave me a sour look and said,
βAlways hated that: not being able to sleep because the neighbors hadnβt tied off their halyard.β
The neighbors had an aluminum mast on their sailboat. So that haunting β horrible? βnoise was from their halyard banging against it.

Sooo utterly perfect my dear friend!!! This is amazingly colored. I love your story and your conversation you recounted having with your Dad. Memories are so precious!! Do you miss Minnesota? I realize youβve not lived there for many years, but have you ever thought of returning? I was born and raised in Ohio. But, Iβve lived many places; Florida, Alaska, UP of Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, and then back to Ohio. Honestly, no place truly feels like home anymore. Itβs hard to explain. πππ
@Riverbank The Lake was a perfect place to grow up. π
Saw your pic β love it!

@brenda I spent the first 24 years of my life in the same small town. 22 of it in that house on the lake! I miss Minnesota all the time, but the lifestyle I was accustomed to is absolutely unaffordable today. The old home was remodeled and worth almost $1M !!!

What a wonderful picture and story about your memories at the Lake house! Youβre a very good writer, you should write a book!
@molly81 aka Margie thought about doing it since I wrote my first story at age ten. And decades of business writing has greatly improved my communication skills!
Iβm too bipolar to concentrate on a novel, but been considering a series of short stories. Many of them Iβve already written here π
