Cover art for “The Left Hand of Darkness” by Ursula LeGuin. The book was published in 1969 and won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards for best science fiction novel. LeGuin (1929-2018) was a pioneer for woman authors in the previously male-dominated world of science fiction.

The book was also groundbreaking in content, dealing with gender fluidity and race relations and how these shape a culture. “The Left Hand of Darkness” is considered one of the 10 most influential science fiction novels of the 20th century, ranked along with “Dune” and “Childhood’s End.”

This one’s for my friend @Glitterspray, who has showcased cover art from the Earthsea saga, LeGuin’s equally influential work of fantasy.

I always thought this was an awesome cover! Every time I read this novel I think more deeply about the concepts. Such a brilliant way to present them. And once again Le Guin is very ambiguous about who’s “good” and who’s “bad.” I’ve read it about six times!
